National HIV/AIDS Awareness

Our Remember the Ribbon Chair has been informing our Chapter about the most recent National HIV/AIDs Awareness Day events.

Here are the most recent posts!

The 2019 theme for National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is, “HIV Prevention Starts With Me”

We've made tremendous progress against HIV and AIDS in the U.S., but women remain vulnerable to infection — especially black or African-American and Hispanic women. Any woman who has sex can get HIV, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, or sexual orientation. Today, nearly 1 million people in the U.S. are diagnosed with HIV, and nearly 1 in 4 of them are women.

March 20th is National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day!

HIV is a public health issue among American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN), who represent about 1.3% of the U.S. population. Overall, diagnosed HIV infections among AI/AN are proportional to their population size. Compared with other racial/ethnic groups, AI/AN ranked fourth in rates of HIV diagnoses in 2016, with a lower rate than blacks/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, and people reporting multiple races, but a higher rate than Native Hawaiians/Other Pacific Islanders, Asians, and whites.

National Transgender HIV Testing Day

April 18th was National Transgender HIV Testing Day. We wanted to take this opportunity to focus on HIV testing, prevention, and treatment among transgender people. We wanted to increase HIV status awareness in transgender populations.

Thanks to all of those who came out to support National Transgender HIV Testing Day! Spreading awareness is key! Make HIV testing apart of your routine

HIV/AIDs Jeopardy

During our most recent GBM, we had our very own, remember the ribbon chair, Olutosin Teniola, conduct a HIV themed jeopardy game, the e-board and current members were able to learn more about HIV and what it really is and how many people it actually impacts on a daily basis.

Living with HIV in the Time of Antiretrovirals with Dr. Cottreau

We had Dr. Cottreau do a talk about HIV/AIDs during our week of awareness.  To end the week of HIV awareness, we had her talk about what it was like growing up the time during HIV being on the rise. She also talked about her clinical experience with patients and also emphasize the importance of raising awareness and getting tested.  The talk was open to all students at the school.

2017 World AIDs Day at Walgreens in Waukegan

Partnered with Walgreens in Waukegan to provide patients with knowledge about the importance of testing, where to get tested, and the use of PReP.

Did you know that 24% of Hispanics/Latinos account for those living with HIV today? Today is National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day! Use your superpowers to create awareness #DEFEATHIV #SNPhARTR #RemembertheRibbon #SNPhAConnects #ConnectingThePIECES
